At a nearly three-hour runtime, Sardar 2 is tiresome. It is evidently mounted on a big budget and has the services of an enterprising cast, but none of that could come in handy when the very conception of the film is off.

The spy thriller expands into a grand global scale but quickly loses focus. The story travels in far too many directions at once without a clear point, making the narrative feel disjointed and confusing. Karthi remains committed and energetic in his roles, bringing intensity to the screen alongside an entertaining turn from S.J. Suryah. However, their efforts get buried under a clutter of unnecessary subplots and tangled plot threads. The erratic pacing and lack of a central emotional anchor keep the tension from landing properly. Despite the solid scale and capable performances, the aimless storytelling turns it into an underwhelming and messy follow up.
