Critics Consensus

Shampoo trains a darkly comic lens on post-Nixon America, aiming at -- and often hitting -- an array of timely targets.

This is an enjoyably sharp comedy but with deeper levels of meaning, too.

Glossy, almost slick sophistication distinguishes the film, which is visually a beauty and suave in its editing.

This was my first experience with a couple screen legends, Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. I'll reserve thoughts on Beatty as this is a strange leading role and he is 70% hair in this movie. Hawn was incredible and adorable.

The bottom of the barrel in comedy and story line. A big waste of time.

Didn't like it then. Don't like it now. Tough to watch self-centered, shallow rich, pretentious beauties enraptured with a hairdresser who's two attractions seem to be that he is a great hairdresser and great lover. Nothing else. Had a hard time excepting that all of these successful people could be this oblivious to everything going on outside of their bubble. Even in the 1970's
