In the gritty, explosive action-thriller She Rides Shotgun, Taron Egerton stars as newly released ex-con Nate. Marked for death by unrelenting enemies, Nate must now protect his estranged 11-year-old daughter, Polly (Ana Sophia Heger) at all costs. Shy, precocious, and wary of her father, Polly is swept up in Nate's dangerous plight as they flee to evade the corrupt sheriff and brutal leader of a gang who will stop at nothing to protect his criminal interests. With scant resources and no one to trust, Nate and Polly form a bond forged under fire as he shows her how to fight and survive -- and she teaches him what unconditional love truly means in this intense, moving story about loyalty, strength, and redemption.

Critics Consensus

A gritty thriller grounded in powerful emotional stakes, She Rides Shotgun is harrowing but enlivened by Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger's superb performances.

The real surprise here is Heger, who, at 11 years old, takes on a complicated role with absolute conviction. [Full review in Spanish]

The whole story turns on how this scared young girl becomes a tough, tragic redeemer through this wild, unlikely journey. Her fear, her joy, her rage, and, finally, her anguish make She Rides Shotgun unforgettable.

While you might assume She Rides Shotgun would surrender to saccharine by its end, Rowland and his leads hew true to the gritty edges of what Harper envisioned, not allowing these characters... to become overly sentimentalized — till it’s warranted.

There’s never been a shortage of exceptional turns by those too young to vote — the past dozen years alone have seen Jacob Tremblay in Room, Brooklynn Prince in The Florida Project and Elsie Fisher in Eighth Grade — and Ana Sophia Heger joins their ranks.

With a flawed execution involving overused cliches and a lack of development in its story & characters, we sadly end up with a film that had an intriguing set-up, but was unable to capitalize on its great potential.

Was an ok ride just that nothing was original. Nothing was a surprise. By the end of it youll forget what the point was.

I went into this blind & I loved it start to finish. What a story with so much heart. The 2 leads did such a great job with their roles. The ending definitely had me crying.

The young actress was phenomenal. Had hard time believing Taron as a bad guy. Movie was meh. Its definitely suited for streaming.

A gritty film of reclamation and bonding. Think The Professional+Natural Born Killers+Breaking Bad ... an Academy nod to the young actress playing the daughter.
