When Ethan returns home her mom, Mary, struggles to accept her identity. The next day, the Boys, inspired by Alex & Ethan, pose as trans women to get into the girls' locker room. Critics Consensus

She's the He refreshes the high school comedy formula with sharp wit and genuine heart to craft an endearingly scrappy, resonant story of belonging and identity.

As leads Alex and Ethan, Nico Carney (a sharp trans comic whose read on toxic masculinity proves hilarious), and Misha Osherovich (sweetly affecting as Ethan discovers her true self) head a terrific, mostly trans and non-binary cast.

She’s the He might not be the funniest or most fearless film about trans identity to find fans this year. But it understands that while queerness isn’t contagious, hope is.

Although the premise is a little bit convoluted, by taking these (trans panic) talking points at face value, it is able to show their absurdity, while also presenting a truly beautiful coming out story.

Goddamn funny and heartfelt. The trans Superbad. In a just world this would be getting the kind of attention vastly inferior stuff like Bottoms and Booksmart did.

This moved me so much. As a trans woman I’ve never seen a movie like this, where I felt so represented by a character, I related so strongly. It’s fucking hilarious also. Really really good.
