A father (Sergi López) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar -- daughter and sister -- who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.

Critics Consensus

A brutal reminder that the journey can be more important than the destination, Sirât is an unforgettable exercise in tension that wallops its audience like a deafening blast of bass to the face.

"Sirat" is an Arabic word for road or path, and, appropriately enough, this is a director with a firm notion of where he is going and what he wants to tell us along the way.

There is plenty to appreciate in Laxe’s film, which wrestles aggressively with ideas of grief and catharsis. Unfortunately, the intensity he brings when telling Luis’s story ultimately undoes the film, hammering in these themes with punishing insistence.

The cast of mostly first-time actors is unforgettable, each face elemental in its own way, and it’s wonderful to see López in a sympathetic role.

Redundant at best and brazenly poseur-philosopher at worst. Its images and dialogue suggest depth without ever showing us. It feels mean-spirited, naïve, and pointless.

Ultimately, *Sirat* is a film about surrender and about the stubborn determination to keep moving forward when there is no longer a horizon. [Full review in Spanish]

This movie feels like Climax meets The Wages of Fear, combining the dance party that descends into a bleak chaotic nightmare of the former with the anxiety-inducing harrowing trek through a harsh landscape of the latter.

I had heard that the film was difficult to follow, and that it was essentially a tortuous and unreadable experience. Nothing could be further from my experience. It is a truly intense yet deeply moving and meaningful film, prophetic in it's vision of our time and space - with a view into the Mystery of eternity, as well. A refreshingly human story that is OUR story, filled with touching moment as well as shocking horror. A must see but be warned that it does not pull any punches. Nor should it.
