Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 8 hrs ago This musical biopic tells part of the life story of Icelander Jón Leifs (1899-1968), specifically his years in Germany following graduation from the Leipzig Conservatory. Jón marries Annie, a German Jewess. They have two daughters. Annie is a gifted concert pianist, Jón a conductor and writer, but one who urgently wishes to establish himself as a composer - nay, as THE composer from and of Iceland. With the rise of the Nazi Party the family's Jewish status puts them in danger, but the Nazis' interest in exploiting Jón's supposedly untainted Nordic heritage, and his musical ambition, creates opportunities. But at what cost? This fine movie was vital for the rebirth of interest in this still much neglected composer's genius. At the time of the filming very little had been heard, much less recorded. Thankfully, most of his music is now available on the Bis Records label. The movie is not wholly historically accurate, but it has become an important artefact in its own right. Worth a look.
