[Jean] Hersholt is particularly effective in his brief appearance as the mysterious doctor... Lawrence Grant is splendid as the lawyer. Go to Full Review

The creepy thrill value is still there, but in the translation from silent to sound it has been badly slowed up. Go to Full Review

The Cat Creeps, the audible picturisation of John Willard's successful stage play, The Cat and The Canary, provides good entertainment with plenty of thrills. Go to Full Review

Even if the current talkie version [of The Cat and the Canary] had been handled more skillfully than it has it would still be doubtful whether the midnight episodes in the old mansion could be today anything more than mildly exciting movie material. Go to Full Review

A weird mystery drama, filled with thrills and with considerable comedy. It is well acted and well presented and it keeps one in suspense to the very end. Go to Full Review

There is no doubt that the "talkie" far surpasses the silent movie in its ability to produce thrills. Go to Full Review

Claudio C @Claudio666 6h The Cat Creeps (1946) Whodunit? (12,236 – 27 Jan 2026) The reporter Terry Nichols is assigned by his boss to review a cold case based on a letter received by his newspaper from Cora Williams. She writes that she found US$ 200,000 hidden in her house and it would be a proof that Eric Goran was murdered and did not commit suicide as sentenced by the justice fifteen years ago. Walter Elliot, who was suspected of the murder, and his daughter Gay go to Cora’s house in an island with his lawyer Tom McGalvey and his assistant Connie Palmer; detective Ken Grady. Terry’s photographer Pidge also goes. When they arrive, they find Cora’s unconscious babbling that the money is hidden in the little house. "The Cat Creeps" (1946) is a mystery-comedy in the subgenre "whodunit" that does work very well, since neither the horror nor the attempt of comedy work. The cast is weak and the plot is silly, forgettable and laughable. My vote is five. Title (Brazil): "Vingança Felina" ("Feline Revenge") See more Read all reviews
