Joey T @RT80268553 Jun 23, 2025 Fixed the overview: The Hypnosis is a sharp satire of startup culture’s obsession with branding and performative authenticity, capturing the anxiety and chaos of millennial ambition. But beneath the glossy surface lies a deeply unsettling portrait of a toxic relationship—where control, manipulation, and emotional abuse undermine true connection. Vera’s struggle reveals how personal trauma can be hidden behind the polished facades of work and partnership. Ernst De Geer’s debut doesn’t just critique culture; it exposes the messy, painful realities that are often ignored See more Bob A @RT81730334 Mar 24, 2025 Excellent film. Uncomfortable, but brilliantly observed human situations. True (dark) comedy. Highly recommended. See more Charlie R @RT11049684 Oct 16, 2024 The story follows a couple, André and Vera, who are trying to pitch their health app at a major competition to secure investors. But before attending the competition, Vera decides to try hypnotherapy to quit smoking, and things get strange from there. The movie has many second-hand embarrassing moments that would make you feel uncomfortable. They say it’s a dark comedy, but it’s not funny at all. It's mostly awkward, embarrassing, and uncomfortable. The acting, especially by Asta Kamma August as Vera, is really good and brings the characters to life. At the start, I thought she was cute, but as the film progressed, she turned out to be nothing but a 'yelai paithiyam da' character. It felt like a Yorgos Lanthimos-style movie, both in tone and in the characters. If you are gonna watch it, be prepared for some awkward laughs and a lot of second-hand embarrassment! A must see! See more julie b @RT59310387 Sep 19, 2024 3.7/5. There’s something tonally that I love about Scandinavian movies; they’ve perfected quirky. I found this very funny and key scenes (e.g., puppy scenes) had me laughing out loud. The awkwardness and desperation in the networking, the performative-ness, and the intellectualization of everything were all spot on. Also, both leads are excellent but I have to extra applaud Asta Kamma August. However, there are competing ideas / messages that distract from, and therefore somewhat weaken, one another and the overall plot. Slightly underbaked but close to being awesome!! Great debut from Ernst de Geer!! “I’m a stray dog. From Portugal” “It’s different being a clown in France” See more Read all reviews
