Critics Consensus

The Last House drags a capable cast through an increasingly repetitive narrative without delivering the suspense or thematic depth its premise demands.

The pulse of the film is the family’s dynamic, but it remains fairly unfrayed as the years pass. Again and again, the script takes a turn away from any sustained tension. Go to Full Review

Even if Lee and Moura work overtime to sell the terrifying scenario these parents find themselves in, ridiculous lines and worse decision-making takes us out of the moment. Go to Full Review

There’s nothing to tether yourself to, no real narrative anchor point that’s anything more than a discombobulated message of the power of family. Go to Full Review
Marlon Wallace The M Report (WBOC.com) Sep 21, 2026
The narrative is divided into two sections. The first is about survival and the second is about escape, if possible. The odds are certainly against them in both sections. Go to Full Review

It would be more effective to showcase a stronger message about monstrosity. Go to Full Review

Jack N @RT97141159 13 hrs ago Now’s not the time for stories says the dad even though he never checked, they gave up trying to get out and just a accepted this in the first 20min. Decorating Christmas trees and oops there were Christmas lights outside….also somehow we have food for 4 months, and he sends his daughter up a collapsing chimney. This is a moronic film and the dad’s a huge puss. The aliens can force field your house but can’t shut the gas off. See more els T @RT47194762 1 day ago boring, The acting feels somewhat unnatural and falls short of its full potential. The expressions, gestures, and delivery of the dialogue feel flat, making the overall performance less engaging and rather boring. See more Arthur F @hellishlandscapes 1 day ago Started well but had a nonsensical ending See more Tatiana H @ROYALTEE95 1 day ago The Last House was good. The film is reminiscent of The Mist, blending suspense with an unpredictable storyline. It features several twists and turns that keep you guessing. Just when you think you have figured out what will happen next, the story takes an unexpected turn. Beneath the suspense, the film explores underlying themes of family, the circle of life, and the complexities of human nature. Overall, it was an engaging watch that kept me guessing. I would recommend giving this film a watch. See more Sam T @Sam10384 1 day ago Way too much focus on shock value with animal d3aths and extremely poor character development. Waste of time to watch. See more Read all reviews
