Critics Consensus

The Lords of Salem has lots of atmospheric portent, but it's unfortunately short on scares.

Polished and calculated, this is a nerve-shattering fright fest bolstered by immaculate technique.

It's a credit to Zombie's interest in growing as an artist that he's drawing from more mature inspirations here, but it's also part of why the movie doesn't work.

Movies by Rob Zombie, the goth rocker turned cult filmmaker, aren't for everybody. But he couldn't care less.

Zombie finally abandons his "hellbilly" aesthetic for something more hypnotic and meditative, resulting in a hallucinatory brain-melter that marks the peak of his directing career.

Neither suspenseful nor disturbing as intended, The Lords of Salem may resist Zombie’s previous shock-fest style, but his detour into goat-sacrificing Satanism doesn’t prove any more watchable.

This is the worst movie I’ve ever seen. I’d give it 0 stars if that was possible.

Horrible movie! I watched it because it was recommended by "Ghost Pirate Entertainment," but I thought it stunk. I kept watching to see if it would get better...it didn't.

Kind of slow moving. Plus the monster(devil) at the end. Could have been so much better. Kind of ruined the movie for me.
