The music department, as well as Courcol’s lively directing and writing, must be commended for scenes of the brass ensemble playing and rehearsing, in a constantly dynamic interaction with dialogue.

"The Marching Band," Emmanuel Courcol’s affecting brotherly drama, possesses a life-affirming soul whose earnest feelings invariably cut down on its potential complexity.

The Marching Band builds to a conclusion that is solemn and celebratory, with a flourish that is winkingly martial and unexpectedly tender.

With natural performances from the cast, a touching story, and a layered plot, The Marching Band is a must-watch. It celebrates how music brings people together but doesn’t shy away from spotlighting the socio-economic crises we’re living through.

While this movie has a few sour notes, when it focuses on the relationship between the brothers at its core, it is a beautiful melody.

One of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. The entire production -- writer, director, actors, music -- was totally immersing. I was sad to see it end.

The Marching Band is a warm, touching and sensitively acted and written movie. As the movie poster in the lobby stated, " Why can't Hollywood make movies like this"? It was beautifully filmed and produced. The music score was just lovely. Outstanding! This film should be distributed in mainstream theaters as an alternative to all the violent fare that is the norm. We saw it in our wonderful "Loft" theater downtown.

Despite the unique storyline and remarkable performances....the plot leaves many relative questions unanswered to the point of feeling incomplete.... common in French films....
