Critics Consensus

A remarkable debut for writer-director Colm Bairéad, The Quiet Girl offers a deceptively simple reminder that the smallest stories can leave a large emotional impact.

... A quiet film. A whisper of a film, really. And its unassuming nature makes it all the more effective.

The Quiet Girl unfurls gently... it seems so simple but leads only to possibilities, and one word – said twice – that will be engraved upon your heart.

In a world of noise — and noisy, jumbled films — this story of found family speaks loudest when saying nothing.

It's a small, intimate film that manages to move the viewer through strong performances, subtle and honest presentations of themes, and beautiful photography. [Full Review in Spanish]

In the present drama, nature is also presented as a new possibility, as a rebirth. Running in the middle of the field represents for Cáit the emergence of another reality, the possibility of free will, the opportunity for change, for flourishing freedom.

Loved the movie - didn't realize it was in Irish - or "Gaeilge" to be specific - and think actually that added to the experience. I had read the book, Foster, and found the movie engendered a similar emotional experience. It is short but packs a punch.
