What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

Nothing makes much sense to begin with. Every plot detail feels like a balloon drifting ever so slowly into the air, waiting for a character to grab the string and yank the story balloon back down to reiterate it. Go to Full Review

Between the sheer complexity of the plot and the intricate way Carnahan assembles the puzzle, “The Rip” is easily worth a second viewing. Having done so myself, I can attest that it’s even more satisfying on closer inspection. Go to Full Review

Affleck and Damon lean into their parts, though most of the rest of the cast, save Calle, hang in the orbit of their swagger. Go to Full Review

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reunite to show the world the importance of a good script, which this film completely lacks. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It settles into something merely disappointing, squandering both its intriguing premise and its talented cast on a final product that never fully delivers. Go to Full Review

J H @Jbaby83 4h The beginning was ok but by the third act, it became so strange and unbelievable, I wasn't able to finish the movie. Unrealistic and weird, I could never imagine a scenario where any cop would collaborate with the cartel when it comes to immediate safety.... stupid and contrived See more Mr U @MrUnpopular 6h Not even good actors can save a predictable plot and poorly written script. Boring, and unrealistic. The poorly acted opening scene lost me. It didn’t get better. The end was mediocre. This was just a very "meh" movie. See more Ryan D @TheDemps 8h Twists and turns make for a suspenseful whodunit at times, while some uncertain plot devices and dramatic cop gusto occasionally break the immersion. See more Gayle C @Celyag 9h Surprising good, very interesting See more RA M. @rmig89 10h Great action packed movie! See more Juan A. @itscheezybaby 13h The brother from the beginning of the movie. You guys are in unripable I was entertained. My biggest critique of it is the beginning and end are a little rough. The colder open was interesting. From that point till Matt Damon mentions the crime stopper tip i had no idea what was happening it felt odd. Then once the bad guy is revealed kinda just drags. See more Read all reviews
