What to Know

Critics Consensus

A bona fide classic of midnight cinema, Tommy Wiseau's misguided masterpiece subverts the rules of filmmaking with a boundless enthusiasm that renders such mundanities as acting, screenwriting, and cinematography utterly irrelevant. You will never see a football the same way again.

It is, in short, the ne plus ultra of crap. A trash masterpiece. Go to Full Review

If there is a 21st-century Edward D. Wood Jr., it is probably Tommy Wiseau. Go to Full Review

It takes a special kind of ‘bad’ to gain a cult following, let alone a film that tries a little too hard. And for all its intents and purposes, “The Room” is that movie. Go to Full Review

I bet Wiseau’s first feature could make Ed Wood’s bones dance... The level of genius necessary to emulate authentic incompetence would approach Borgesian heights: there will be no pastiche called “Pierre Menard, Director of ‘The Room." Go to Full Review

Josh Suarez 01/23/2022 Watched it with a live Q&A with Greg Sestero. Awesome time! See more Fallopia Tuba 09/11/2021 Oh, it sucked! It was a terrible movie about horrible people doing awful things to each other! At the same time it was a breathtaking travelogue of San Francisco, so that was something. But otherwise, the movie had no redeeming qualities—but at least I fully expected that. Put it in the "so bad it's good" category I'd probably see it again, if only for the camp value. See more Kay 07/26/2021 It’s so bad that it’s good See more Jack F @MovieFan111 6d Whoa. Crazy movie. First and foremost, it's a masterpiece of cinema, and I'm not being sarcastic when I say all of this. I genuinely mean what I say here... It's one of the best comedies you'll ever see, and one of the best movies that hands out free life lessons. What more could you want?! I think my favorite character (apart from Johnny) was the psychologist. He was sooooo funny. Here's this qualified nerd, and he doesn't even do anything helpful! I love this movie. Damn man, Lisa is evil... I'm definitely watching it again. I love how Wiseau said his lines. It's so deadpan, and the accent he says his stuff in is just so great. Absolutely stunning piece. See more Julian L @Bubblegun Jan 11 It's so poorly executed, I came out laughing like I've seen Dr. Strangelove but 10x the humor. During the mental breakdown, he rubs the red dress against his dick, and moans. What the fuck? This is half porn, half amateurish nonsense. See more John F Jan 7 Utter garbage, and not "so bad it's good" like Birdemic that at least had a decent political undertone. This one is quite sexist and isn't meant to be satirical.
