The Thinking Game won’t allay any fears about this new technology being used for wrongdoing, but it does at least portray the intentions behind its development. A well-explained tribute to innovation that will be accessible to even the least tech-savvy. Go to Full Review

Daniel O @Olshansk 14h This film is simultaneously inspiring and depressing. Demis Hassabis is a genius, a prodigy, an inspiration, a leader, a visionary, a curious soul, and a force of nature. More importantly, he is a selfless human being who genuinely wants to make the world a better place. As an engineer, a scientist, and an aspiring entrepreneur, I know I have to find my own path, but it is hard not to compare myself to him. Was I a competitive national champion chess player in my youth? No. Was I offered $1M at 17 before going to college? No. Did I start a world-changing company before I turned 30? No. Am I on a path to receive a Nobel Prize in chemistry? Not yet. Will I play a critical role in enabling the most important technological revolution in human history? I will likely just leverage what Demis and his peers started. I am grateful, inspired, motivated, and excited about everything this film presented, but it did make me feel a bit inadequate. See more James G P @AlbertJay Jan 19 You can't help but be impressed with the intellect and commitment of the players behind Deep Mind. By presenting the upside of AI, this Google video project seems to attempt to make the masses feel comfortable with this new technology. But it didn't do that for me: I don't suppose that those who are inclined to employ AI to more nefarious purposes are documenting their projects on YouTube. Also, while there is a nod to the need for universal standards and comprehensive governance of the deployment of AI, it remains unclear exactly how that will happen in our fractious world. And as best I can tell from a survey of history, the world is ever fractious ... See more Leaburn O Dec 7 A very solid look at a seemingly transformative technology. Did feel like a bit of an AI sales book though. Interesting to hear Demis’ background and thinking but something felt a little bandwagony and sycophantic, self indulgent about the whole thing. Wasn’t a particularly challenging documentary. Watched on Amazon Prime but it was recommended to me through my YouTube algorithm. See more Robert M Dec 1 The film gives an up-to-the-minute (as of late 2024, anyway) of the progress of AI beyond what humans can do (writing essays, creating cat videos) to what we can't do (solving the protein-folding problem) and beyond. What next? Demis Hassabis tells us in the film: genomics, theorem proving, quantum chemistry, food science, fusion, particle physics and climate science. I think that he and his team will do it. I loved the film - it is pacy, full of content and seems to give a fairly balanced view of Deepmind, Demis' company. It also has an unexpected recurring train theme - so that's a tick for all the train buffs out there. It's a film that should be seen by everyone - if those other problems (fusion etc) are solved, then the future will be unimaginable. See more Jackie KW T Oct 18 Amazingly interesting and inspiring - a MUST SEE. It is such a classical story of human innovation, that will be taught as a household big history, probably more so than the lightbulbs by Thomas Edison. See more Marc S Jun 20 Good intro movie to AI conceptualization to development. I appreciated that it didn’t get too technical. Great explanation about General intelligence and how that is different than programming something to do one thing. See more Read all reviews
