Critics Consensus

Snoop Dogg remains an appealing screen presence and The Underdoggs offers its share of laughs, but this crass youth sports comedy isn't doing anything audiences haven't seen done better before.

There’s still a surprising amount of fun to be had, mostly because The Underdoggs allows the neighborhood and its inhabitants to shine, and everyone is clearly having a blast in this shiny commercial...

Yes, his thespian range may be pretty limited, but there’s no denying Snoop has a palpable onscreen charisma and a good sense of comic timing that director Charles Stone III skilfully directs around.

Now, I know this movie will not be for everyone. I expect this to be considered a bad movie. For me, as a movie that’s on streaming, it was a good time. It reminds me of direct-to-DVD movies that were rampant in the 2000s until streaming took over.

This is less about proving that Snoop is a good actor and more about showing what a force of charisma he can be with his unique screen presence.

Everyone loves an underdog story, as this film's characters themselves affirm, but Snoop deliberately buries the heart of his tale under layers of intentionally edgy material.

Was entertained. A bit crass at times, but part of the charm. Loved the football training montage with the kid dropping the ball. Schultz was also funny. The end was surprisingly good. Snoop and Epps were a good pairing too.

Absolutely! Fun and maybe for 10 and older for the kids. Fun for both parties. Nothing but smiles and laughter the entire time.

“The Underdogs” – A Misguided Comedy That Misses the Mark The Underdogs, starring Snoop Dogg, is a film that feels like it was made purely to ride on the fame of its lead rather than deliver any real substance or quality. While casting celebrities can sometimes bring a fun energy to a project, Snoop Dogg in a leading role just doesn’t work here. The film leans heavily into his usual on-screen persona—centered around drugs and excessive profanity—even though he’s surrounded by kids. The contrast is jarring and awkward, especially considering it’s supposed to be a feel-good sports comedy. The idea of him playing a former football star is hard to buy into, especially when the younger version of his character is portrayed by someone physically bulkier, making the transition feel unbelievable. The writing is lazy, the humor falls flat, and overall, the movie feels like a cheap attempt to capitalize on a celebrity name rather than tell a good story. It’s disjointed, poorly cast, and lacks any genuine charm. In the end, The Underdogs feels like a complete waste of time and budget. There’s nothing memorable or enjoyable here, and I can’t recommend it to anyone.
