As some critics have commented, it's similar to the big budget Hollywood flicks like the Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno. But it has some very important distinctions: (1) These are not Hollywood actors; they look like ordinary folk from Norway; (2) The film is more like a documentary in style; (3) The build up to the Big Show is truly tense; (4) It's a smallish film, the type made by independents for the past twenty years, and the best scenes take place at night. Wish it had taken place during the day, but the special effects would have cost huge Hollywood-size bucks so it's understandable. Despite the weaknesses, I liked it very much. Excellent direction by Roar Uthaug; great acting (the best); and the screen writing and cinematography, first-rate. I normally don't actively search for subtitled movies, and I usually have a movie playing in the background as I work on the computer. This time, however, I turned the laptop off and just watched. What is this hokeywood infatuation with foreign films? Aren't there enough bad American movies? See more Coffee 01/12/2025 The movie started off a bit questionable but turned out to be a great watch! Knowing more about the situation than most, I found it hard to understand why the characters hesitated but honestly most people often doubt or deny things like this in real life when bad things happen. We all react differently to certain situations. The scenery was beautiful, and the CGI made the disaster look incredible. Some character deaths were sad, but they felt realistic since not everyone survives. I liked that some characters were smart enough to follow the guy who ran for safety though. I feel like a lot of movies lose a lot of fans when characters just stand and do nothing. See more Dave C 07/23/2024 A disaster movie with science and history forming a part of its foundation. This is generally well-written, and is focused on a family going through a transition that is impacting on each of them differently, causing some tension and doubt. With the understanding that something bed is likely to unfold sometime soon, the expectation distills some of the suspense.
