Times are good for Mak the parrot, Scrubby the goat, Carmello the chameleon and the rest of the wildlife that inhabit a tropical island. Their day-to-day routine gets shaken up when a mysterious creature washes up on shore. He's a sailor named Robinson Crusoe, and he's the only human survivor of a terrible storm that destroyed his ship. As the animals get to know their peculiar new guest, they find him to be a useful ally when two conniving cats try to seize control of their exotic paradise.

contemporary relevance doesn't make this movie any more interesting. It just floats by on flat characters and predictable gags, a functional distraction for kids who are bound to forget it as soon as they hit the next episode of Dora The Explorer.

The artists did a good job with the graphics. I am not sure who is the intended audience. It might entertain a 4 or 5 year old, but would be too scary for them. Flat, unoriginal, and uninspired.

Although "The Wild Life" occasionally doesn't know where to go and eventually drifts off course towards the end, this funny, charming and exciting animated feature is genuinely well-made and thoroughly entertaining.

One of the worst animated movies of 2016, Robinson Crusoe/The Wild Life has colourfully animated antics galore - the lighting's a bit off, though, and at times the movement's a bit jerky - and serviceable voice acting but the weak premise, unfunny jokes, boring, one-dimensional characters and not really having much of a plot to speak of (it just ends after Crusoe and the parrot deal with another threat) make it a movie that's most likely to appeal strictly to children and nobody else outside of that demographic. Go watch Madagascar instead if you want a more entertaining version of "family-friendly Cast Away".
