Critics Consensus

This Is GWAR is an entertaining and oddly inspiring documentary that vividly captures the band's grotesque artistry, wild performances, and candid personal stories.

An oddly inspiring film... celebrating how a crafty DIY aesthetic and a twisted vision can nearly always find a receptive audience.

A portrait of creative misfits who came together to express themselves through grotesque, childish, and surprisingly revealing outsider art.

Even if the antics shown here aren’t really your thing, it is still a hoot seeing Gwar members get interviewed by a game Joan Rivers: you can tell that beneath all the latex most of them are sweet, normal folk...

It certainly is fun to take a ride alongside one of the most shocking group of degenerates to ever hit the music scene.

It’s a wildly entertaining documentary, and also a very honest one, even turning into The History of the Eagles for a time as the band members share the details of their many bitter feuds with one another.

Not at all what I expected! I really loved this film, I knew of the band but wouldn't call myself a fan so I wasn't sure if this was going to be up my alley, but what it actually was, was a really poignant emotional story about a bunch of misfits trying to make art and rock on their own terms!

A slightly repetitive but honest, funny and affecting documentary of a very strange band.

This is GWAR as you've seen them on stage, and as you rarely have off the stage. A fascinating insight into the makings of the band and beyond. It won't appeal to all, but it is a well-made documentary on those guys with freaky costumes that can actually play music as well.
