In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator. Go to Full Review

Haseeb A @iamhaseebaslam 10 hrs ago Troy had been on my radar for years, but I never got around to watching it. With The Odyssey on the way, I started reading about the story and realised that the events of Troy set the stage for Odysseus’s journey. That was enough to move it from "someday" to a must-watch before The Odyssey. The scale is impressive, and the fight sequences are incredible. There’s a sense of weight to the battles that makes the spectacle satisfying, whether it’s armies clashing or two warriors facing each other. It’s the kind of film that makes you wish you’d watched it sooner. I did find myself wishing certain parts of the story had played out differently. Since it’s adapted from an existing tale, though, I can’t put all of that on the filmmakers. Some of it is simply wanting a different outcome for the characters. I watched the director’s cut, so I can’t compare it with the theatrical version. Taken on its own, though, it was an enjoyable watch and finally crossed a long-overdue film off my list. We loved the incredibly elaborate costumes, jewelry and hair, and the big, immersive soundtrack was a perfect fit for the epic scale of the story. It has some of the same flavor, and even some of the same actors, as Braveheart, which is a good thing. The only drawback was that the battle scenes eventually became a bit tiresome, and at nearly three hours the movie felt too long. See more Liesl L @liesll Sep 3, 2026 A movie made for men by men. Lacks character development. Feels like a soap opera. See more Read all reviews
