Critics Consensus

Diane Lane shines in the role, but the movie adds nothing new to the genre and the resolution is unsatisfying.

A movie about sexuality that really throbs with eroticism.

The movie is called Unfaithful, but it's actually extremely faithful -- to the adultery movie rulebook, anyway.

A dark, delusional piece of sultry fantasia that doesn’t condemn or condone Connie or Ed’s choices. It simply presents people surprised by the ease with which they transgress and allow little white lies to fester into gigantic, tumorous deceptions.

Diane Lane anchors the movie: she plays real and she looks real, with just enough lines and hints of wrinkles; a beautiful woman who's been distracted by too many school runs and charity committees.

Good movie but I worry that it promotes immorality.

I liked this movie, morally wrong yes. But it was such a great movie. Loved the early 2000s New York shots too. Acting was amazing too.

Always really liked Unfaithful. It’s a fun watch seeing Gere go to great lengths to cover up his crime.

Connie seems citified, but quaintly naive. No woman with sense would leave him in a dress and heels to go to the big city in gale force winds. The premise makes women look vain and trivial.

It was a good watch. spoiler alert: Considering that the focus was more the family dynamics and the drama of the affair, the part with the investigation of the murder is clearly full of plot holes and how they seemingly got away with it - at least that's what the viewers were left with.

Diane Lane was up to the task, cuck Richard Gere was awkward to watch, and the cops who couldn't solve this case should be fired.
