07/19/2019 Was intrigued by the interesting story, but this was so poorly acted, directed, and shot, I couldn't make it past the first 10-15 minutes. What a waste. See more 07/21/2016 I'm not usually a fan of history movies but this one had some local interest since a lot of the filming occurred in NC. I was fascinated by the story and the movie held my interest until the end. I also am currently reading the book which contribute a lot more details than the movie was able to capture. Tank Jones was a super actor as the hero that was a slave. Rent or see in a special venue if you have the chance ! See more 04/28/2016 Should have been a great story, however , the acting was not believable. I would expect this level of talent from the local commmunity theater. The prison camp set was a small field, roped off with a couple dozen small white tents. Later the actors claimed they had been held in intolerable conditions. These were not evident by the set or the action that took place on that set. The script was awkward, sometimes unbelievable. See more 04/25/2016 This movie is a drama that shows us a slice of what the Civil War was like. From the viewpoint of a captured Union Soldier. Although it does have some Civil War battle scenes it is not a film about the large scale conflicts, but more of the personal ones. To my relief there is not a blockbuster action scene around each corner. If this interests you so far then Union Bound is the movie for you to see. - Dan Thornton: Publisher GigSpotting.net See more 04/25/2016 I thought it gave us a view of life outside of the battlefield and major troop movements we've seen in other movies/docs/shows of the period. It really focuses on what happens if you're not lucky to survive or be killed in action, but are caught by the enemy. The audio and soundtrack were good and not overdone. The cinematography and directing varies by shot a little but captures views of NC we haven't seen before on the big screen. Good color in most shots. The editing needed to be tightened-up a little and could have dropped 10+ minutes of long hangs on shots after the action/point was made to move the movie along a little faster. The main 3 actors as Joseph Hoover, Thomas J. Ryan, and Jim Young were believable, especially Tank Jones as Jim Young, very emotional performance. Trish Cook as Ms. Macintosh wasn't really all that part could have been, just reciting lines and not becoming. Overall worth the time if the period interests you.
