One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one... only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they're forced to relive the night again and again -- only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Until Dawn has a novel premise by rewinding the clock repeatedly to deliver multiple horror movies in one, but a lack of inspiration in each new variation yields a spoil of diminishing returns rather than riches.

Until Dawn wants to carve its own path, separate from its source material. Ironically, in trying to be different, it ends up feeling more clichéd than ever. Go to Full Review Ross McIndoe Slant Magazine Apr 26, 2025

The film is far from original, but it successfully translates game logic to the big screen. Go to Full Review Esther Rosenfield Little White Lies Apr 25, 2025

The film promises that every night will contain a new horror, but the lack of variety means they all feel as punishingly repetitive for the viewer as they are for the characters. Go to Full Review Rachel Tolleson Tech Advisor Aug 21, 2026

Until Dawn is a solid game adaptation. Although its story departs from the original narrative, the heart of the game is there, and fans will find plenty of its elements to enjoy. Go to Full Review Don Kaye Moviefone Jul 15, 2026

It’s entertaining in a superficial way -- and repetitive in the way that games can be -- but it ultimately succumbs to its own thin nature and the lack of real stakes. Go to Full Review Jazzmin Crawley Girl, That's Scary (Podcast) Mar 28, 2026
Until Dawn has decent effects, but it should have never been associated with the video game; it's barely has the same essence. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

CJ Mar 16, 2026 This was enjoyable. I liked it 🙂 nice kill scenes See more Stephen Feb 22, 2026 A fresh idea that worked. Highly recommend. See more crystal Feb 3, 2026 Love, the fact that this movie starts before the video game See more Andrew B Dec 26, 2025 A weak story based around the movie notion that one would play through a scenario multiple time via trial and error in a video game, except that's not how the game Until Dawn is structured. Even if they just called it something else unfortunately it still would've been a disappointment. See more Gandalf G Sep 15, 2025 No Markiplier cameo. Unwatchable. See more Elizabeth Mcpherson Sep 10, 2025 I relish in the idea of making games into movies as well as books and this was done beautifully. See more Read all reviews
