Adopted by the wealthy rancher Arch Strobie, orphan Owen Daybright (Burt Lancaster) grows to be a respectable foreman on Strobie's ranch. Strobie's natural son, Lee (Robert Walker), is jealous of Owen and finally finds a way to undermine his upstanding brother. It is no Red River or Stagecoach, but it offers a strong plot and some excellent scenery and action. Go to Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times Mar 25, 2006
All this talk may tend to slow Vengeance Valley down to a gentle trot at times, but on the whole the picture is a creditable entertainment. Go to Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Aug 14, 2005

G L. @RT09869090 Jun 14, 2026 Burt Lancaster is the man in this very good western. See more Per S @RT83737705 May 14, 2026 Really nothing special but a western clisché, even with Burt Lancaster. Still the cinemtography and lightning are somewhat ahead of its time. See more Steve D @RT35616104 Apr 5, 2024 Only entertaining for Lancaster. See more Mar 22, 2023 Really good one right here thank you like it to James Welch, Henderson, Arkansas March 21, 2023 See more Apr 29, 2018 A cattle baron has as son Lee Strobie (Robert Walker) and an adopted son Owen Daybright (Burt Lancaster). Lee who is married fathers his mistress's child, and the blame falls on Owen to save grace because Lee is married. Lee and Owen lead a cattle drive when Owen learns that Lee has double-crossed all of his family members. The final showdown is rather uneventful, which is surprising since it stars Burt Lancaster. Lancaster was solid, but not powerful as usual. When you have Burt Lancaster and Robert Walker in it I just expected more. The name Vengeance Valley is rather confusing because there wasn't any revenge, but instead it is about hostile sibling relations that eventually boil over. It is worth a watch but overall disappointing. See more Mar 25, 2017 Burt Lancaster is let-down somewhat by a b-movie cast, and it shows at times. The story is pretty average too.
