Critics Consensus

It's decidedly uneven -- and surprisingly sappy for an early Adam Sandler comedy -- but The Wedding Singer is also sweet, funny, and beguiling.

Supporting players are uniformly strong, and Coraci deserves much credit for exacting just the right degree of outrageousness without spinning into some wild orbit.

A brilliant romcom full of gaudy costumes, ostentatious characters and a sweet love story at its centre.

Sandler and Barrymore succeed in elevating The Wedding Singer as one of the better romantic comedies in the late 1990s.

A pitch-perfect celebration of a time when male perms and Van Halen were in at the same time, 25 years after it was first released, this 1985-set comedy is perhaps still the most crowd-pleasing and entertaining 90 minutes of Adam Sandler’s career.

Absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time. Being a child of the 80's I simply adore the soundtrack. The live covers by Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi and Jon Lovitz are great too, not to mention Sandler's only hit song "Grow Old With You". The supporting cast is hilarious and this movie could easily be watched over and over.

Sandler at his best. He shows his comedic and musical genius in one 90 minute masterpiece that does the 80s justice.
