After witnessing the murder of their corrupt boss, Bernie Lomax (Terry Kiser), Larry Wilson (Andrew McCarthy) and Richard Parker (Jonathan Silverman) are blamed for Bernie's embezzlement and fired. Desperate to find the stolen $2 million and clear their names, the pair learns the fortune was hidden in the Virgin Islands and travels there in pursuit. Meanwhile, Bernie's corpse is partially revived in a voodoo ceremony by gangsters also looking for the money.

Critics Consensus

It would appear to be all but impossible to make a worthwhile sequel to a comedy about a corpse's exploits -- odds Weekend at Bernie's II never comes close to beating.

Bernie’s II stretches a thin idea even thinner, but it offers enough puerile fun and well-executed gags to lure fans of the 1989 predecessor back to theaters

Through it all, Mr. Kiser, who says not a word, exudes the foolish amiability of a partygoer who is beyond plotzed and is living in a private world of his own.

If the premise of the first film was mindless and repetitive, it's doubly so this second time around.

Weekend at Bernie’s II does possess an affable, amiable vibe that proves effective at sustaining the viewer’s interest from start to finish...

I will point out that you shouldn’t watch the sequel. It’s truly terrible. You’re welcome!

At the film's conclusion, unfortunately, Bernie is still a fully animate zombie, leaving open the possibility of a third weekend.

Really funny movie and good entertainment for an evening! Not as good as the first, but not many sequels are?

The premise is absolutely ridiculous and the beats miss harder than a steel drum during ramadan but if you turn your brain off and laugh at the one trick pony it is, you will leave wanting a little more.

The first Weekend at Bernies was hilarious but this sequel is only just about passable. There are some funny moments which made me chuckle but there's none of the belly laughs this time around. Not the worst comedy ever but its a film that doesn't really need to exist other than to make a few quid and cash in on the original.
