Victorian-era Englishman Phileas Fogg proclaims before his fellow members of a London gentleman's club that he can circumnavigate the globe in a mere 80 days, further boasting that he will bet the princely sum of 20,000 pounds on the success of his endeavor. Outstanding in the long part of Mr. Fogg's faithful valet, Passepartout, is Cantinflas, a sad-faced comedian with a delightful economy of gesture and expression, who adds just the right note of implausibility to the whole highly improbable affair.

Around the World in Eighty Days is like a serial; a serial in brilliant Technicolor and a system by now called, I believe, Cinestage, ending in the most ingenious credits I have ever seen. It is a journey through scenes where the sun is aways shining.

Think Bruckheimer or Tony Scott making films in the 1950s. Visually stunning and popping cinematography, with zero in the way of storytelling and character development. Outside Cantinflas, all the other stars are phoning it in, but they had little to work with. This is a cliched movie that should have been much better, but it didn't really try, it just wanted you to look at what the 2nd and 3rd units shot. Eye candy, nothing more.

There's a charming story somewhere in here and the narrative and performances are silly to match (compliment). But the runtime is loaded with filler scenes as they travel from country to country. Like extended Spanish dance and bullfighting scenes, Indian burial sequence, Geisha performance, and maybe hundreds of scenery, boat, and train shots. All the portrayals of regions and people are basically caricatures.

A very good adventure film. David Niven as the quintessential English Gentleman plays perfectly. Cantinflas at his comedic best and Crazy Shirley at her most beautiful. Great supporting cast.

The movie felt very boring there was barely and action and the whole time the main characters were talking if your looking to waste time on useless knowledge this is the movie for you

Can't believe low scores which much be from younger viewers. This type of elegance and granduer isn't reproduced today. Maybe I'm old fashioned but they dont make movies like they used to.
