Although the film isn’t in the least bit scary, the idea of a mutant plant that feeds on human blood is a terrifying idea, which gives us pause when ruminating on the utter viciousness of nature outside our own clean cut city worlds. Go to Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy 12/26/2023

Despite the impressiveness of the singing Audrey II, the original plot and conclusion are significantly more captivating and entertaining than the sanitised musical version. Seeing their disembodied faces in the plants' blooms was far more effective and terrifying than whatever the musical version coughed up. The characters seem more "natural"; Seymour and Audrey aren't one-dimensional, and the poor people aren't made to look filthy and unclean and have their poverty fetishised like in the musical version. This film is fantastic considering it was shot in two days. If a remake were ever to be made, someone like Guillermo del Toro could do wonders with such a compelling story. So, I come from Little Shop of Horrors (1986), and I truly love that film. I had no clue what I was getting into here, and it was so much different and more fun than I had expected it to be. The humor is incredible, and unexpected. Some of the end chase and stuff felt like a little bit of fluff, but most of this movie is pretty fantastic. Absolutely worth a shot.
