George Banks (Steve Martin) and his wife, Nina (Diane Keaton), are the proud parents of Annie (Kimberly Williams), but when she returns from studying abroad and announces that she's engaged, their whole world turns upside down, especially that of overprotective George. While it’s admittedly a pretty by-the-numbers remake that hits every predictable beat of wedding-prep chaos, Father of the Bride remains an enduring feel-good classic thanks to its heart. The plot follows the standard "overprotective dad" blueprint, yet it avoids feeling stale because Steve Martin is super charming, as usual, balancing frantic physical comedy with genuine, tear-jerking sincerity. It’s a sugary, polished slice of 90s nostalgia that succeeds simply by letting its lead actor do what he does best.
