Aaron D @Aaron106 22 hrs ago My favorite Daniel Day Lewis movie. See more Olivia G @writing300 6 days ago The 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans, directed by Michael Mann, is a historical fiction film set during the French and Indian war. This film follows Hawkeye, a talented frontiersman and a member of the Mohican tribe, who protects Cora and Alice Munro, daughters of a British army officer. Although the movie starts slowly, it becomes highly interesting once the characters are put in dangerous situations and face conflicts. It made the movie feel credible since the characters felt like real people, rather than just actors playing a part. Stunning landscapes and exciting action scenes contributed to my enjoyment of the movie; however, what made the movie engaging for me was the authenticity of the actors' performance and their emotional roles. Despite the fact that the movie is not always focused on historical accuracy and there were some exaggerated events, I still consider it to be a powerful film that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys strong characters, romance and action. Despite being set during the French and Indian War in 1757, the movie does not focus heavily on the war itself. Instead, the director decided to focus on the Native American tribes. The story depicts the conflict between the Mohicans and the Hurons, and effectively shows the differences between two Native Tribes’ cultures and traditions. Even though some aspects were historically inaccurate, still the description of Native Tribes were believable and authentic. While there was a bit of romanticization of the story, the villainized tribe and Magua were portrayed reasonably by adding Magua’s background story and the wise elder of the tribe. Therefore, this movie worked well as a factor in breaking widespread prejudices against tribes. Critic Consensus: Micheal Mann’s "Last of the Mohicans" portrays historical events of the with a realistic and authentic lens. We often assume segregation and that it is expected to stand with your nationality, but "Last of the Mohicans" breaks the stereotype. The protagonist- Hawkeye- was raised with the Indigenous, but chooses not to fight with them and instead with the English because of his affection towards the English Colonel’s daughters. He lets his feelings and opinions dictate his stance, not his cultural obligations. Watching the story unfold, I admired Hawkeye’s determination and confidence in his actions. I find the courage to make those decisions inspiring and something we should all practice. See more Fernando C @RT70949731 Sep 22, 2026 A window into the difficulties of the colonial era, Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans offers a sobering look into the struggle for land waged between Natives and Europeans alike. The story follows Hawkeye(Daniel Day-Lewis), a white man raised by Mohicans, who, with his adoptive father Chingachgook and brother Uncas, escorts high-ranking British citizens, including the Daughters of General Munro, into the besieged Fort William Henry after their party dies in a Huron ambush. Eventually, romance grows between Hawkeye and Cora Munro. The climax happens when Cora and others, captured by Hurons, are rescued by Hawkeye. The movie’s scenery and camera angles make viewers feel small: mountains, forests, and waterfalls are shown frequently. These wide shots reinforce the frontier setting. I think The Last of the Mohicans deserves the praise it gets. It may have changed aspects of the true story to suit the movie format, but it combines scenery, characters, and action to make an epic movie. See more Mariam S @maram.s Sep 21, 2026 The Last of the Mohicans focuses on Hawkeye and the Mohicans who protect two sisters during the war between the British, French, and First Nations during the French and Indian War I didn't like the movie because it villainized the First Nations, picturing them as gruesome so then when they fought none seemed affected by killing people. As you look at the Maguas' faces, they hold no remorse for their actions, which makes them seem like heartless people. I feel like this portrayal is unfair because it makes the First Nations appear as cruel and unremorseful while not showing any of their perspective or reason to fight. See more Read all reviews
