Tam B @RT76976074 2 days ago Decent classic film, it was enjoyable to watch and I liked the final twist at the end. Personally the film isn’t one I would watch again, more so as it’s not my typical genre. For those that love war films, this one is good. Would recommend as something to see See more Kong K @kingkong2000 Sep 2, 2026 I don't like war movies that depart from historical facts. It's both an insult to the dead and the living. 2001 was a time to stir up emotion for another war (9/11 - the new Pearl Harbour), so it's no surprise that this is what this movie was all about, and it's a fitting prelude to the decline of the american empire because when you learn that you can win by bullshit, you get lazy. Yes, the central characters and romance are fictionalized, and plenty of liberties are taken for entertainment. I’m perfectly capable of separating a historical drama from a documentary. What the movie does incredibly well is capture the scale and shock of the attack. The peaceful morning suddenly becoming absolute chaos, aircraft screaming overhead, battleships burning, sailors trapped below deck, and people desperately trying to understand what is happening still makes for an incredible sequence. Add the aviation, friendship, sacrifice, music, and sheer spectacle, and it remains an extremely entertaining WWII movie that I’ll happily rewatch. The scale, sound, explosions, aerial shots, and chaos are technically impressive and emotionally powerful. That section is easily the strongest part of the movie. The production value is huge. The aircraft, ships, costumes, bases, and period design give the film the sweep of a big Hollywood war epic. Hans Zimmer’s score also adds a lot of emotional force and grandeur, especially in the more dramatic and patriotic moments. Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett give the friendship enough sincerity to keep parts of the story watchable, while Kate Beckinsale brings warmth to the romance. The problem is that the love triangle takes up too much space and is not strong enough to carry the film. Pearl Harbor is ambitious and visually impressive, but it is also bloated, overly sentimental, and much stronger as spectacle than drama. See more Read all reviews
