Critics Consensus

Despite a strong performance by Queen Latifah, Beauty Shop is in need of some style pointers.

So-so movie with great cast pushes PG-13 limits.

As in the other two movies, the plot is a thin cardboard box carrying an assortment of observational doughnuts.

Latifah carries the weight of this film and does an impressive job given a script that's crying out for a total restyle.

This lame Queen Latifah vehicle is just a series of scenes that proceeds to parade in one stereotypical character after another.

Take one part "Barbershop," one part Queen Latifah, sprinkle in a tablespoon of 'you-go-girl' and stir to get the confection of "Beauty Shop."

Funny in 1.75 hours. I love paying tribute to Dana Elaine Owens (March 18th, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey, United States of America-Present). And Alicia Silverstone (October 04th, 1976, in San Francisco, California, United States of America-Present). And Kevin Norwood Bacon (July 08th, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America-Present).

It was interesting but there were a lot of stereotypes in there. There were parts that were slow.

It's like the producers sat back and said "okay, we want another Barbershop movie, but for women!" So as a result it ends up being a regurgitation of the first 2 movies it's spun off from. While it's not as fresh, and the characters aren't as charming, it's still fun enough.
