Critics Consensus

Excessive and gory, this remake lacks the intellectual punch of the 1972 original.

By dismembering Craven's landmark extremities, Iliadis celebrates his source for all the wrong reasons. Go to Full Review Nigel Floyd Time Out Jun 12, 2009

Dennis Iliadis's remake retains its ferocious power and provocative themes, and thanks to a focused script that unfolds in real time, it ratchets up the suspense and sucks us into a remorseless cycle of violence and revenge. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Dec 2, 2023

Suffice it to say the film concerns itself more with doing Craven justice than any Swedish poets, medieval or filmic. Go to Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Sep 21, 2023

It’s well shot, well edited, the effects are stellar, the performances are solid, but it is a brutal film (for better or for worse) that not all will want to watch. Go to Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Dec 30, 2020

While this remake or Craven's 1972 classic is by no means watered down, it takes a different approach to the premise that allows it to stand on its own. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 4, 2026 This is not a great movie thus my *2 and 1/2* star rating! See more B P @Bradster69 Sep 2, 2026 Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Ari S @RT76826585 Aug 9, 2026 The Last House on the Left is a brutal, unsettling film that refuses to make its characters or its audience feel comfortable. Beneath the violence is a bleak examination of grief, rage, and how quickly ordinary people can be pushed toward something darker. It’s disturbing by design, but what lingers most is the emotional ugliness and the sense that revenge may offer justice, but it can never undo what was lost. A harsh, haunting piece of horror that stays with you long after the final scene. See more Russell H @RT85733992 Jun 20, 2026 Brutal revenge scenes but could have gone farther. Too much uncomfortable build up See more Andy's E @andrew139 May 22, 2026 i dont like movies that any form of assaulting women, rape is a total no no in any type of form, its a crime, people can go to jail for such a thing, so why have such a terrible act in a movie, and the guy who came up with this garbage should be in jail, sexual assault is a crime and should be allowed in movies, men who love this movie much really hate women and love to sexually assault woman, didnt like the original trash and dont like this trash. 0/10 See more Steven F. @SteveGotScored Feb 11, 2026 Honestly such a great a brutal remake!
