Alec B @AlecMichaelB Sep 24, 2026 One of the most extraordinary things about this documentary is that it came about entirely by chance. Jules and Gédéon Naudet, two French brothers who studied film in the U.S., were working on a documentary following the day-to-day experiences of a rookie firefighter in New York City. By sheer chance, the Naudet brothers were present during the early hours of 9/11 and accompanied Battalion 1 to the World Trade Center without fully understanding what was unfolding. This resulted in the brothers capturing what is widely considered the only known footage of the North Tower being struck by one of the planes during the September 11 terrorist attacks, along with subsequent footage from both inside and outside the towers. The documentary serves as a remarkable archival record of the events of that day, while also preserving the firsthand testimony and experiences of the surviving firefighters of Battalion 1. See more Sep 11, 2013 An extraordinary documentary, 9/11 provides a firsthand account of the Word Trade Center collapse. While following a rookie New York firefighter during his first year on the job, documentarians Jules and Gedeon Naudet find themselves in the middle of the greatest disaster in American history. The footage is quite raw and heightens the intensity of the film. However, the editing is extremely poor, as is the narration. While 9/11 contains some incredible material, it's a haphazard documentary that lacks a clear focus.
