Most shark thrillers leave you dissatisfied. Not “Above & Below,” which metes out the shark attacks when warranted and makes them less CGI corny and more realistic. Go to Full Review

It’s better than some recent low-budget shark flicks, but still a tediously frustrating, nonsensical, sometimes boring experience Go to Full Review

A little different from the usual in this type of feature, but Giordano doesn’t supply much imagination for screen tension, leaving the movie lacking in excitement for far too long. Go to Full Review

Marc Z @TKDLife 2d Above & Below is an action crime movie set at sea, where elements of drug trafficking, a summer vacation, and shark infested waters all intersect for an engaging and well paced thriller. The film follows a group of young people on vacation when one’s gambling problem causes him to cross paths with a gangster, played by Banderas. In the aftermath of a poker game the group find themselves on, what they think, is merely a shark cage experience. It turns out to be more. When they discover their host’s secret the group ends up fighting for their lives as they walk the rope between a group of bandits and a team of sharks. The film’s cast is strong. Banderas plays a convincing gangster. He manages to balance charm and lethality well in this one. Marano does a solid job in the lead here. She is likable and capable and holds her own against the more dynamic members of the cast. Louis Mandylor, never disappoints. He is a solid screen presence when he is together with Jesse Johnson.
