Critics Consensus

Bad Samaritan delivers a handful of genre thrills -- and a stellar central performance by David Tennant -- that help offset iffy direction and a disappointingly mundane story.

The debut director Dean Devlin clearly has Hitchcockian pretensions, even if the sleazy thrills he offers lunge closer towards torture porn.

What is David Tennant doing in this fantastically charmless and unpleasant film?

Bad Samaritan is the tale of an immigrant taking on a dangerous, out of touch, entitled, rich asshole. There's a dose of politically charged wish fulfillment in that, which makes an already fun movie even more of a blast.

Such a simple opening act, hints of shady poking is ugly head. The real adventure begins, our main characters are showing their hands slowly. The lead into the cat and mouse game is palpable, putting my heart in my throat for a moment. It's so tense that I'm giggling and holding my breath in anticipation of what could happen next. David Tennant can be freaking terrifying, I mean godly scary and beyond intense. Mr charming shows his game face now, so smug and yuck, making my skin crawl and the brutality is legendary and is worth mention.

A tight little film which does a good job of living up to its bold premise, Bad Samaritan delivers solid two hours of entertainment.

Fun movie, never boring. My only problem was keeping the fact that the bad guy kept reminding me of Charlie Sheen out of my mind. Moral of the story? Trust fun people SUCK.

Tense and had some great jump scares. David Tennant is great in this, of course, although his American accent could be better.
