Critics Consensus

Thanks to the spirited performances of a talented cast - particularly Will Ferrell and Jon Heder as rivals-turned-teammates -- Blades of Glory successfully spoofs inspirational sports dramas with inspired abandon.

The result proves sadly under-choreographed. And choreography is everything in a film that leans as heavily on slapstick as this one.

There is a steady stream of laughs and narrative interest. Blades isn't quite as funny as Zoolander or Dodgeball, but it deserves a solid score from the judges.

After Ferrell's manchild partners with a fey figure-skating rival (Heder), it's strictly uninspired buddy-comedy bickering.

Blades of Glory is a classic, laugh-out-loud film, and is perfect for when you’re looking for something mind-numbingly hilarious.

A routinely amusing blend of infantile scenarios and daffy characters that matches Ferrell's string of send-ups on various professions and sports.

One of Ferrell's greatest gifts as a comic is the perfectly timed spontaneous gesture, facial expression or random action.

I have a soft spot for movies like dodgeball, anchorman, and other 80s - early 2000s dumb comedies and this one is no different. The Jokes always land the story is always fun and the cast is always stacked. I enjoyed it what can I say.

Blades of Glory gets a solid 3.5 stars from me. This was such a nostalgic rewatch, and it still totally holds up. The cast is stacked and everyone commits hard to the ridiculous premise, which makes it even funnier. Honestly, almost every scene has at least one moment that made me laugh out loud, which says a lot for a comedy this old. The absurdity, the rivalries, the over-the-top skating routines—it all just works. It’s not the smartest comedy ever, but it knows exactly what it is and leans into it perfectly. Super fun, easy watch, and still genuinely hilarious today.
