That Zellweger can make us believe in Bridget's heaving inner world is par for the course -- she's a supremely talented comic actress. That she was willing to risk her own status as sex symbol by looking like an everywoman is really impressive.

Bridget Jones is anything but a spinster; she's naive, easily swayed, an emotional conformist in love, or simply, a woman with bad luck? I complained about her so many times, but after all, she's a woman who's a victim of societal expectations. The plot is crude and predictable, the events even border on trivial, but the film has an aesthetic that will leave you satisfied in the end. Most importantly: Renée Zellweger embodies the character so completely that I even felt sympathy for the (very, very late) evolution of the character. After complaining so much, I say: the praise is understandable, but it's definitely not an unforgettable rom-com.

Hilarious, quirky and filled with memorable scenes. The quality of these stories are in fact so memorable that a still photograph by the credits of movie 4 will remind you, with laughter, of some zany trip in number 1. This is where it all started, where the groundwork is laid. It’s fair to say some bits are cringe, but it turns out the early 2000s had a fair bit of cringe ideas.
