Truly disappointing. I found the script obvious and not very well-written; quite a lot of the acting substandard or over-the-top; the moral compass of the movie questionable. I'm confused that the film has been so well received. Watched till the end, but without enthusiasm. There are myriad holes in an almost non-existent plot, and a denoument which resolves nothing and ducks the issues the rest of the film has been establishing.

As a married Asian woman, this movie deeply touched me. I have experienced a situation similar to Chu’s, especially in how we face traditional Asian family expectations and our mothers-in-law. Yes, my mother-in-law didn’t like me and looked down on me at first. But in the end, I accepted the challenge and won my husband’s heart. He has been with me all along, and through this journey, we’ve come to understand each other better and live the life we truly want. I love him for who he is—not for his wealth or his seemingly perfect family. Just him, being himself. Now, we are blessed with a happy married life.
