In mid-1980s Texas, electrician Ron Woodroof is stunned to learn that he has AIDS. Though told that he has just 30 days left to live, Woodroof refuses to give in to despair. Critics Consensus

Dallas Buyers Club rests squarely on Matthew McConaughey's scrawny shoulders, and he carries the burden gracefully with what might be a career-best performance.

The film fails to break the pattern of transphobic narratives in cinema, perhaps because it doesn't understand that trans people are not the same as cis gay people.

Sometimes a character punches through the screen, beyond the film containing him. Matthew McConaughey's performance as an HIV-positive cowboy in Dallas Buyers Club is one of those moments.

Though Jean-Marc Valle's direction is sometimes indistinct, it does allow the actors to come off more inhibited in their performances and each scene is that much more authentic.

A film that hasn't aged particularly well since its release, relying too little on truth and too much on awards-bait. Jennifer Garner is innocent, though

... At times, the film feels like a pharmaceutical road movie, at others, like a gritty urban Western and an escape/chase movie like Catch Me If You Can (2002), without Spielberg's charms but with Vallée's denunciations. [Full review in Spanish]

This movie was powerful. I’ve always been a proponent of using medicine through legal means, but this movie made me rethink a lot of my opinion about regulations concerning the terminally ill. I was very impressed with the acting and the storytelling and how it helped the viewer to overcome stereotypes and prejudice towards people with HIV, particularly homosexual and bisexual patients. As a movie, it did its job—it helped change the audience’s paradigm through art. If anything, I am much more compassionate toward those who want to seek alternative treatments.

Movie was great. The true story was beautiful. See it was sad that the struggle that he had to go through to get to the point to where he is today Matthew McConaughey he yet again doesn’t disappoint. The movie just dragged a little bit, but probably Jarret‘s only good performance ever.
