Dark Harvest is a chilling tale set in a cursed town, where every Halloween becomes a brutal battle for survival. During the fall of 1963, the terrifying legend Sawtooth Jack rises from the cornfields and makes its way toward town, where gangs of eighteen-year-old boys stand ready to slaughter the murderous scarecrow before midnight. Among the boys is Richie, a rebellious outcast yearning to break free from the town's curse, driven by his brother's victory the year before. As the hunt progresses, secrets are revealed, leading Richie to a shocking discovery and a fateful decision that could break the vicious cycle once and for all.

Critics Consensus

The satisfyingly spooky Dark Harvest might have been scarier, but it wrings some stylish chills out of its intriguing premise.

Visually clever and directed with giddy, B-movie ferociousness by Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night impresario David Slade, this slick slice of blood-splattered Halloween carnage is worth knocking on doors to see.

Slade's film isn’t too grave about leaving a lasting effect, but it does not take itself seriously enough.

It wouldn’t have been that big of a problem if the other performances had balanced things out, but it saddens me to report that none of the actors give any noteworthy turns here...

Dark Harvest (2023) Senseless Story (12,266 - 09 Feb 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In the Halloween of a farming town in the 60’s, Sawtooth Jack rises from the cornfields to reach the local church. However, all the teenage boys fight Jack. The winner is the one who destroys him and is rewarded with a house for the family and a Corvette. When Jim Shephard (Britain Dalton) wins the prize, his brother Richie Shepard (Casey Likes) cannot participate in the next competition, but he decides to fight Sawtooth Jack. He discovers a dark secret about the town. "Dark Harvest" (2023) is a horror movie with a senseless story. The plot is awful, and the greatest surprise is the name of Jeremy Davies in the credits of this movie. Richie is uncapable to fight the bully of the town but wants to face the notorious Sawtooth Jack. My vote is three. A 1960s small town has been cursed and must have their 18 year old sons hunt a creature every Halloween. The winner gets a ticket out of town. Blending elements of supernatural horror with social commentary, this is a mild diversion for horror fans. The creature is fantastic and is what I found most appealing. The narrative doesn't achieve it's potential, paralleling authoritarian control with gory deaths and there are several dumb moments. Starving boys for 3 days won't make them maniacs. They'll be tired and too light headed to run around the cornfields. And just the idea parents would place their children in this situation. It would be too easy to distract the law and all your children to leave the town. But, the monster? Worth it.

Children of the Corn, Warriors, and The Purge meet Happy Days, with pyromaniac supernatural beings? It seems like an odd combo, but the movie feels watchable enough if there isn't anything else to view.
