There are delicious moments in the final fifteen minutes of Evil Under The Sun, but what I especially liked about this Christie were the opening scenes the setup. Go to Full Review

Acknowledging Hercule Poirot's eccentricities are part of the equation, "Evil Under the Sun" spends entirely too long indulging them. Once it shifts from "The White Poirotus" to the actual mystery, the film improves. Go to Full Review

…Evil Under the Sun marks the peak of Ustinov Poirot… Christie’s narrative still works, making for a satisfying, glossy whodunnit with traditional thrills coming directly from dubious characters, waspish dialogue and ingenious plotting… Go to Full Review

Evil Under the Sun is more a product of the expansive time it was made than the more austere time it was written, and that's a big part of its appeal: the 1980s in full, indulgent flower. Go to Full Review

RichardAB @PoorDearRichard 4d Evil Under the Sun delivers exactly what you’d hope for from an Agatha Christie mystery: a clever whodunit wrapped in comedy, campy drama, and stunning scenery. The cast is a tour de force — Maggie Smith, Roddy McDowall, Jane Birkin, Peter Ustinov, and Diana Rigg — and they all shine, with Smith in particular dazzling with her sharp, witty quips reminiscent of a younger Violet Crawley. The plot moves smoothly, the music and setting add charm, and the unexpected ending keeps the story memorable. This is one of those films I can never stop watching — classic Christie done with style, humor, and just the right touch of theatrical flair. See more Neil P 4d Wonderful 80s Agatha Christie adaptation. Starry cast, plenty of camp tongue in cheek humour and beautifully shot. Peter Ustinov is a marvellous Poirot. See more KC K Jul 29 Ustinov is genius as Poirot. Actors are good to great yet always Med chic entertaining with the classic mix of different personalities all Christie stories have. Watched this many times as a teenager back in the 80s - never grew tired of the sounds, visuals & storyline. See more CodyZamboni Z @CodyZamboni Mar 22 Intriguing, campy, comedic Christie mystery, With fun, energetic performances , Bright, sunny, scenic locations, Sumptuous score with good use of Cole Porter tunes, Movie is well performed by cast of veterans , And it was nice seeing Jane Birkin , I never read the book, so I enjoyed the final reveal. It surprised me, as well as the clever set up, and Poirot's deconstruction of the clues, See more Ben W @Username618 01/10/2025 No option to delete my review. Put the stars in the middle. sorry. Silly hairstyles, shoulder pads and lots of plastic bangles. Like a glam rock version of Macbeth. See more Read all reviews
