Claudio C @Claudio666 Dec 19 Gett (2014) Backward Society (12,138 – 19 Dec 2025 – Claudio Carvalho) In Israel, Viviane Amsalem (Ronit Elkabetz) goes to the court to get the divorce from her husband Elisha Amsalem (Simon Abkarian) after twenty years of marriage. The Rabbi judges only hear the claims of Elisha, and stall Viviane and her lawyer Carmel Ben Tovim (Menashe Noy) for five years. "Gett" (2014) is an amazing movie that shows the difficulties of a woman to get divorce in Israel. Amazing how backward society this country is regarding divorce. Only men can give despite the evidence. And the Rabbi are disrespectful toward women. The performances of the cast is amazing. My vote is seven. Given that the action is limited inside a courtroom that follows regulations unknown to a foreign audience, this is surprisingly watchable. I felt that about twenty minutes in the second half dragged too long. Superb performance as the wife, by Romit Elkabetz who is also one of the two directors. Simon Abkarian bravely interprets the a-hole husband, knowing that 99,9% of the audience will dislike him. If you hate feminists, this is a fairy tale for the ages. See more adam s @topdog1970 05/05/2021 Excellent. Very hard to follow Jewish law when the wife wants to quit the marriage. On the other hand, as the husband's supporters pointed out, he was a good guy and she could have appreciated that and not wanted divorce in first place. See more Bradley J @RT44951549 09/27/2020 I wasn't sure I wanted to watch this movie, the premise I thought would bore me, but I'm really glad I took a chance. What an interesting movie, very well acted, and tragic. This movie depicts how many women are still second class citizens in many countries, and this movie does a great job of showing what that means in real life, without trying to make a point.
