An empty fuel tank and a flat tire lead two couples down a terror-riddled road to the House of 1000 Corpses. House of 1000 Corpses is at its core a story of family - a cast of twisted individuals who, with each slash of a throat or stab through the chest, add bodies to their sick human menagerie.

Critics Consensus

There's an abundance of gore in this derivative horror movie, but little sense or wit.

Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses has nostalgia on its side but not much else.

A tour-de-farce of depressing inanity, that's unable to do anything more than offer a messy, incoherent pastiche of other, better movies.

Zombie wants his film to be gleefully demented, but he fails to grasp that loud, inbred evil people torturing stupid, grating benign people isn't disturbing as much as tedious.

It seems like Rob saw films like Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, and Salem’s Lot, as a child and wondered to himself, “What goes on in the parts of these movies that I don’t get to see?

Works best as a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit, but is otherwise a derivative mixtape of Zombie's biggest influences.

Even if it's not a great movie, I wish every horror movie were more like this movie. We'd all have a lot more fun come Halloween, squirming in a chair like we're meant to.

Dr. Satan!! The dialogue is so good, and the actors are perfect. Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding is iconic, and his opening dialogue is gold. This has that 70s rock aesthetic. Rob Zombie has such a distinctive style. I love it during Halloween season. I love the characters. Otis, Jerry, Bill, Denise, and the rest fit perfectly into this crazy world. I discovered this in my late teens and loved it. Watching it as an adult, I keep thinking, how did I get away with this? It's brutal, disturbing, and filled with crazy imagery. The best way to describe this movie is like walking through a haunted house. The amusement park theme, horror ride, hillbilly horror circus vibe, and constant disturbing imagery all add to that feeling. It's over the top and unrealistic, but who cares? It's a Rob Zombie movie. The camera style adds to the dread. The middle slows down, but I still love it. It's not the feel good movie of the year. You can't take it seriously. It's one of a kind and a classic.

This movie was so fucking bad. I can’t stress it enough gore was horrible, but I get it since it was like whatever the fuck the year was I didn’t fucking check what the fuck happened at the end. Was she fucking dreaming on some I miss that kind of misery the kind where you were nice to me but only in the evening so I ask am I just dreaming shit or like no and even if she wasn’t like let me just like ask how the fuck he would get in the car realistically but either way I’m so confused about the end. Rob Zombie remake this bullshit and let me hop on the fucking script. And anyone who like rated this movie more than three stars go get your fucking shit checked out thanks.
