Kathleen P @Kathleen1017 Jan 12 I liked the juxtaposition of the classic story with modern elements. The role of gargoyles as the "good guys" seemed fresh. I liked the comic book influence in the cinemaphotography. And I liked the rock soundtrack. In spite of all the action scenes, the characters were portrayed with realism, and I cared what happened to them. Finally, I liked what seemed to be the influence of late 19th century German romanticism in the artistry. I suspect the critics panned this movie because it is a guilty pleasure, not deep or cerebral, just a fun watch. See more Jax C Nov 28 I had no expectations before seeing the movie. I saw only the trailers before it's release. I'm a fan of Aaron Eckhart. I'm a childhood fan of Frankenstein also. Good vs. evil is my favorite theme where the lines are clearly defined. I gave this 5 stars for all facets of the movie, the casting, the acting, dialog, writing, theme, locations, the suspension of disbelief--aided by the special effects. I have seen it 4 times now and just watched it on SyFy channel. It goes down as one of my top 3 "monster" movies. I sincerely hope for a Frankenstein 2 sequel but it seems Mr. Eckhart is not up for it. Oh well, maybe "Son Of..." will be a project in future years. See more Robert W Nov 27 I Frankenstein expecting a dark action movie with some entertainment value, but what I got instead was a confusing mess filled with unnecessary blasphemy and strange creative choices that completely ruin it. The part that bothered me the most was how casually the movie tries to rewrite spiritual concepts. They actually imply that God isn’t the only creator, which is a wild and disrespectful direction to take. And then they have the nerve to call Frankenstein’s monster "Adam," as if that somehow elevates the story. It doesn’t — it just makes it feel like the writers were trying way too hard to sound deep and ended up insulting people’s beliefs in the process. On top of that, the movie itself is just not good. The acting is flat, the dialogue sounds like it came from a bargain-bin superhero script, and the plot has no idea what it wants to be. Demons, gargoyles, secret wars — none of it fits together, and none of it adds anything to the original Frankenstein story. The whole thing feels like it was written by someone who wanted to copy Underworld but forgot to include anything that made Underworld decent. The CGI looks outdated, the characters are boring, and the pacing drags even during the action scenes. By the end, I was just waiting for it to be over. Between the disrespectful religious themes and the overall low-quality writing, this is definitely a movie I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. No, not a billion dollar blockbuster that took $200 million to make. If you like monster action movies and want to be entertained then watch this movie. No need to over complicate things. See more CHi A Jun 21 This was pretty good. I was expecting corn & cheese but got popcorn. Seriously though, the acting was OK and though the special effects could have been better it was worth a watch. I kind of got Highlander vibes, guessing that's Eckhart's square jawed scowl at work.
