Brandon F. @CaliforniaB Apr 17, 2026 A Cyberpunk classic written by William Gibson himself. It had all the elements to be great; cybernetic implants, Hackers, black market data thieves and a virtual internet, all way before their time. But the execution just wasn’t there. The acting is terrible and the special effects look primitive. It comes across as campy . If it was made today with a good director I really think it could have been great. But it was too much before it’s time. It holds a special place in my heart, hence the high review, but objectively speaking it won’t land with most audiences See more Paul S @PManRager Apr 10, 2026 While it was fun to watch, the performances from the cast were painfully forced. I love Keanu Reeves, but unfortunately, this is not his best performance, and there were a lot of parts of the movie that felt plain stupid. Despite the movie's flaws, I still really enjoyed watching it. The movie presented a beautiful dystopian atmosphere, the story was intense and intriguing, and the visuals of the movie were great for its time. I definitely recommend this for action and sci-fi fans! It's a delicate balancing act of self-aware campiness, laughable silliness and genuine sci-fi action charm, depicting a world obsessed with digital information, data trafficking, corporate control of technology, and even networked virtual spaces long before those things became everyday realities. The special effects are charming at best, laughable at worst, and while the action is less than inspiring, it's at least offset by a great Brad Fiedel score. The sheer weirdness of Johnny Mnemonic is ultimately what saves it, offering up cyberpunk at its most shameless and capturing the techno-paranoia of the 90s perfectly. It's sprawling, silly and has no right to work at all, but somehow it just does. See more fake f @8mmtravis Jan 30, 2026 It's terrible. Finish it only for comedic purposes, like I did. Alternatively, if you like dolphins, then send it.
