The romantic ups and downs of accountant Mollie Jensen (Kirstie Alley) are viewed cynically by a most unusual bystander -- her talking newborn, Mikey (Bruce Willis). She becomes pregnant through an affair with a married man, Albert (George Segal), and then counts on the friendship of taxi driver James (John Travolta) once she discovers Albert is a lying cad. Although Mikey likes James, and James cares for both the baby and Mollie, she isn't sure she can settle down with a blue-collar boyfriend.

Critics Consensus

Look Who's Talking holds some appeal thanks to its affable stars and Amy Heckerling's energetic direction, but a silly script doesn't allow wit to get a word in edgewise.

Like a standup comic pouring 'flopsweat', this ill-conceived comedy about an infant whose thoughts are given voice by actor Bruce Willis palpitates with desperation.

Heckerling directs this dippy but delightful film with a light, zany touch and a reasonably low yuck-factor (dribbles notwithstanding).

Cute is the operative word for the movie, which stars some good actors doing material that is not super.

I was surprised to really enjoy this sweet story. The chemistry between the two leads was great.

I laughed a lot more than I expected to. The soundtrack is fantastic and the chemistry between Travolta and Alley was undeniable. The talking baby stuff is still creepy though.

Look Who’s Talking would be complete goulash if it were not for Alley’s charm and comic timing.

We had a TV copy of Look Who’s Talking on VHS growing up, so I watched it a lot. Although, to be honest, I probably shouldn’t have been watching it a lot as a kid. For a family comedy, there are a lot of adult themes in it. It was definitely educational. And while I thought it was hilarious when I was younger, I now see that it’s a pretty basic story with the only humor really being Bruce Willis improvising baby lines in the recording studio. Although why is he still doing the voiceover when Mikey is clearly old enough to talk? So, Look Who’s Talking is still likeable, but not as funny as I remember.

I’m not sure why this comedy turned out mediocre when it starred two household names whose chemistry was apparent. Whether it’s the lame story or the unfunny script, Look Who’s Talking is best as a pastime for a boring day.

Funny movie. Watched it again after 30 years and it's still a great watch, especially if you miss NY or if you are having a kid ❤️
