Michelle Monaghan is radiant as the lovely Hannah, who dreams of a loving, considerate man. Director Paul Weiland’s romantic-comedy Made of Honor (2008) is very touching, tender, romantic, and hilarious. I really enjoyed revisiting this cute rom-com after so many years. Weiland’s direction is fast paced and playful as we follow Patrick Dempsey’s shallow Tom realize he actually loves his best friend Hannah. Every moment of them together feels cute and earnest. The romantic chemistry is off the charts and feels intimately filmed. Writers Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan, and Adam Sztykiel deliver on genuine romantic feelings, hysterical jokes, and earnest drama as Dempsey thinks she’ll never love him. Patrick Dempsey is effortlessly handsome, charming, romantic, and funny as Tom. I liked the more quiet moving moments with him as he ponders his lack of commitment and inability to say I love you. Dempsey makes Tom start out sleazy and easy to feel disdain, but then he reigns himself in for a subtle and expressive performance. I found myself rooting for Tom and Hannah. Michelle Monaghan is effervescent, funny, smart, loving, considerate, and kind as the sweet love interest Hannah. I think Monaghan is underrated as an actress as she so easily feels natural and endearing. She makes Hannah feel relatable as an every girl just seeking some sincerity, fun, and passion out of love. She has great chemistry with Dempsey and brings out his warmth on screen. Michelle Monaghan is very versatile here. From being sultry in the red sexy lingerie to very subtle when she’s hurt that Colin will not share his chocolate cake like Tom so easily does for her normally. She is simply marvelous in Made of Honor. Kevin McKidd is funny as Hannah’s sudden Scottish lover Colin. Kadeem Hardison is great as Tom’s thoughtful friend Felix, who is trying to help Tom mature to find love. Chris Messina is a riot as Tom’s shallow friend Dennis, who is also his father’s divorce lawyer. Richmond Arquette is likewise amusing as Tom’s other shallow friend Gary, who can get in touch with his feminine side. Kevin Sussman is goofy as the tiny shorts guy, who just wants to play basketball with the boys. Sydney Pollack is a scream as Tom’s father Thomas Senior, who is forever getting divorced and remarried to scandalously young women. James B. Sikking’s unamused priest Reverend Foote is funny. Busy Philipps is hot and hilarious as Hannah’s jealous bridesmaid Melissa, who resents Tom from a previous disaster relationship. She’s just wild in Made of Honor. She’s actually funnier than the comedienne Whitney Cummings, who is merely fun as Stephanie. She just wants Hannah’s wedding to go well. Kathleen Quinlan is wonderful as Hannah’s supportive mother Joan, who doesn’t like Colin, but prefers Tom for her daughter. Beau Garrett cameos as the gorgeous blonde Gloria, who likes Tom. Sarah Wright also cameos as a blonde Tom dates and dumps. Christine Barger’s stalker blogger, Kelly Carlson’s shallow wife number six Christie is a blast. Mary Birdsong and Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s cameos are very fun. Editor Richard Marks’ swift cuts are great. Cinematographer Tony Pierce-Roberts’ stunning wide shots and enthralling close-up shots are so vibrant. Production designer Kalina Ivanov’s lavish sets are as lush as composer Rupert Gregson-Williams’ bright film score. Costume designers Rebecca Hale and Penny Rose craft fitted suits and pretty dresses. However, Michelle Monaghan gets a truly lovely white wedding dress with a little lace on top that’s devastating on her. Overall, Made of Honor is wonderful, as Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan are delightful, in particular. It's an oldie now but a perfect, ridiculous rom com. Both leads are fun. Who doesn't love the premise he got rich on coffee collars? Lol.
