It's been three years since Mike Lane's (Channing Tatum) retirement from stripping, but the former dancer misses the excitement and feeling of being on stage. Most of all, though, he misses the best friends that he ever had, the crew known as the Kings of Tampa. Opportunity comes knocking when the guys look him up as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a stripper convention. With the promise of outrageous fun, a reinvigorated Mike can't resist the chance to join in and take it off again.

Critics Consensus

Magic Mike XXL has enough narrative thrust and beefy charm to deliver another helping of well-oiled entertainment, even if this sequel isn't quite as pleasurable as its predecessor.

What thrilled me most about watching XXL was not necessarily what happened onscreen-it's what happened in the audience. Go to Full Review Angie Han Slashfilm Jun 16, 2017
It's fun. Magic Mike XXL moves along at a brisk clip, leaning into all the absurdities of its premise and giggling all the way. It's the cinematic equivalent of an afternoon spent drinking beer on the beach. Everyone's having a good time. Go to Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Jun 10, 2016

The film is light, often hilarious, sexy, and ridiculous in a charming way, assuaging any heaviness for an effortlessly fun experience I would happily revisit. Go to Full Review Kip Mooney Central Track Aug 10, 2021

Kristen V Mar 29, 2026 The movie doesn't have much of a plot, and it seems like several plot threads are started and abandoned. But the dancing on screen is enough to keep you entertained enough to keep watching, even if the Kings of Tampa don't actually perform until the end of the film.
