What to Know

Critics Consensus

Narratively unwieldy and tonally jumbled, Maps to the Stars still has enough bite to satisfy David Cronenberg fans in need of a coolly acidic fix.

So here's a mean, nasty little piece of work - and I have a feeling director David Cronenberg would take that as the compliment it's intended to be. Go to Full Review

This isn't a lousy film; it's a mediocre, ugly film about lousy people. Go to Full Review

Hollywood has been disemboweling itself since... Sunset Boulevard and The Bad and the Beautiful, but those movies seem like Cream of Wheat compared to Cronenberg's wicked vision. Go to Full Review

A half-baked Hollywood satire that mostly doesn't work aside from an MVP turn by a wonderfully awful Julianne Moore. Go to Full Review

Moore manages to capture this lost, lonely, and damaged individual without every being too heavy-handed in her approach. Go to Full Review

The vapid and self-obsessed showbiz characters of Maps to the Stars go beyond the usual Hollywood satire, as Cronenberg chronicles the various ways their self-delusions and ambitions create an ever larger abyss of lies... Go to Full Review

Unique C. @uniquecliches Dec 22 A dystopian portrayal of Hollywood, with great performances. The main idea of the script is intriguing and may be the sole takeaway from the viewing experience. However, the overall movie is so disjointed and unpleasant. The characters lack any likability, and one cannot really care about their fate or their stories. See more T J. @objects Dec 3 Brilliant, never boring and never nice. See more thiago s @Thiagostone Dec 2 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Elaine 09/29/2024 I turned this off half way through. I like to think people actually aren’t that contemptible. See more David W 12/21/2023 Maps to the Stars is the kind of weird, quirky production that Cronenberg has grown into in the most recent part of his career. It's enjoyable and features more refined and subtle forms of the body horror that he is known for. I would definitely watch this again. See more Alec B @Alec97 12/13/2023 Cronenberg's sensibilities improve upon what could easily have been more obvious satirical elements. Moore's performance is impressive, a lot of actor's have made themselves look physically ugly but few would be willing to go as far emotionally as she does here. See more Read all reviews
